The Iraqi Border Guard Forces have apprehended 28 individuals of Asian nationalities attempting to cross the border illegally within the administrative borders of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, according to Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, the spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

Brigadier General Miri stated that the First Regiment of the Third Border Brigade successfully carried out the arrests as part of ongoing efforts to curb infiltration and smuggling operations. He emphasized that a formal arrest report had been filed, and legal measures were taken in accordance with Iraqi laws.

"The Border Forces Command remains committed to preventing illegal infiltration into Iraqi territory and will continue its operations to uphold border security," Miri said in a statement.

While the border guards operate under the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, in the Kurdistan Region, they are predominantly Kurdish citizens who have maintained checkpoints and headquarters in various border areas for years.

The Kurdistan Region shares official borders with Iran to the east, Turkey to the north, and Syria to the northwest, making it a critical zone for border security operations.
