Russia Invites KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Moscow

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, received a Russian delegation led by Mikhail Bogdanov, Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister. The two sides discussed regional developments and efforts to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and Russia.

According to a press release by Barzani, during the meeting Bogdanov emphasized the strategic importance of the Kurdistan Region and the strong historical ties between Russia and the KRG. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to expanding cooperation in various sectors and extended an official invitation to Barzani to visit Moscow.

Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s desire to deepen bilateral ties with Russia and highlighted the importance of addressing unresolved issues between the KRG and the federal government of Iraq.

A key topic of discussion was the amendment to the federal budget law and the recent agreement to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. Both sides regarded these developments as positive steps toward resolving disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.

The meeting also covered the situation in Syria, where both sides stressed the importance of maintaining security, stability, and protecting the rights of the Kurdish people and all communities in the country.
