Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw announced that a major tourism investment project worth $1 billion will be implemented in Mount Safin, a well-known natural landmark in the Kurdistan Region.

“The project is currently under study, and we are working on drafting a master plan. It is an unprecedented initiative in the Middle East, set to be completed this year and carried out by major international companies with expertise in tourism development,” Khoshnaw stated.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) continues to attract millions of tourists annually, primarily from Iraq’s southern and central provinces, along with visitors from abroad. In new year's 2025 alone, more than 200,000 tourists have visited the Kurdistan Region.

The project is expected to significantly boost the region’s tourism sector, providing new attractions and economic opportunities.
