The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have confirmed that the agreement reached between Commander Mazlum Abdi and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa was conducted with the knowledge and mediation of the United States. The SDF emphasized that this agreement does not involve any changes in the forces operating in North and East Syria.
"Our agreement with Damascus was brokered by the United States, which remains an active party in its implementation. There will be no changes in the forces present in North and East Syria," said Farhad Shami, head of the SDF's press center.
Shami further clarified that the agreement does not alter the handling of ISIS detainees, stating that the SDF will continue to oversee ISIS-related cases and prisons without the involvement of Syrian government forces in SDF-controlled areas.
The agreement, reached on March 10, 2025, during a high-level meeting, outlines key measures aimed at stabilizing Syria and ensuring the protection of all communities. The main points of the agreement include:
Political Inclusion: All Syrians, regardless of ethnicity or religion, will have the right to participate in governance based on merit and competence.
Kurdish Rights: The Syrian government will fully recognize the Kurdish community and guarantee their constitutional rights and citizenship.
Ceasefire Implementation: An immediate and nationwide ceasefire will take effect to prevent further conflict.
Institutional Integration: Key infrastructure in northeastern Syria, including military bases, border crossings, and energy resources, will be brought under the administration of the Syrian state.
Safe Return of Displaced People: The agreement ensures the safe return of displaced Syrians, with state-backed protection for those returning to their homes.
Security Measures: The Syrian government will receive support in countering security threats, including remnants of the previous regime and extremist groups.
Commitment to National Unity: Both parties reject calls for division, sectarianism, and hate speech, reaffirming their commitment to a unified Syria.
Implementation Plan: Executive committees will oversee the enforcement of the agreement, aiming for full implementation by the end of 2025.
