A kamikaze drone targeted the Turkish army’s Zelkan military base in Nineveh province on Tuesday night, the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate (CTD) announced.

According to a statement from the CTD, the attack did not result in any casualties. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Turkey maintains several military bases and checkpoints inside Iraqi territory, primarily within Kurdistan, except for the Zelkan base in Nineveh province.

The continued Turkish military presence has been a point of contention between Baghdad and Ankara, with Iraq repeatedly calling for the withdrawal of Turkish forces. However, Turkey justifies its presence by citing the threat posed by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which it considers a terrorist organization.
