Peregraf- Ali Bapir, head of the Kurdistan Justice Group (Komal), renewed his call for a re-run of last year’s Kurdistan Parliament election during a campaign speech for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections in Sulaymaniyah.

Bapir described the 2024 Kurdistan Parliament election as “pre-designed,” claiming it lacked legitimacy and fairness. He urged all political parties in the Kurdistan Region to support his stance on holding a fresh vote.

“The Kurdistan Parliament is still not on its feet,” Bapir said. “Let a clean and sound election, free from pre-design and the interference of other countries, be held again in Kurdistan as soon as possible after this election.”

The Komal leader also criticized the ruling Kurdish parties, saying they had distanced themselves from the public. “Those who are now called the Kurdish political leadership—we were all together and were like one. Now, we are still like our people, but they have reached the Milky Way,” he said, suggesting that current leaders are far removed from the struggles of ordinary citizens.

Iraq’s parliamentary campaign period began on October 3 and will continue until November 8. Special voting is set for November 9, with the general election scheduled for November 11.
