The Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced the arrest of "seven members of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Kirkuk". According to a statement from the Directorate, "one of the detainees was involved in transporting weapons and military supplies to the group".

This operation comes amid heightened concerns over a potential resurgence of ISIS, following instability in neighboring Syria. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has warned of the group’s efforts to reorganize, taking advantage of abandoned Syrian army weapon depots and deteriorating security in camps such as Al-Hawl.

In a related development, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed a precision airstrike in Syria’s Dayr az Zawr Province, targeting an ISIS leader, Abu Yusif, and an accomplice. CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla reiterated the commitment to preventing ISIS from regaining strength, particularly by targeting leadership and preventing jailbreaks of detained operatives.

The ongoing operations underscore the necessity of international cooperation in combating ISIS and ensuring stability across the region.
